With the recent announcement of the remakes of Pokemon Gold and Silver, I thought it was about time to channel my enthusiasm into a sort of column on my front page - for speculation, reminiscing, and what have you. :] I can't promise how frequently this will be updated, but if there's a major news leak on the new games, you can expect some sort of input on my part. Gold vs. Silver Note: This particular article is probably completely biased because of my personal preferences. Hope it gives you some food for thought, though c: And so, the age-old dilemma - which version do I choose? I may be jumping the gun on this one, since we have so little pre-release information, but we can assume the differences between HG and SS will be essentially the same as the original games. The popular demand is obviously for SoulSilver simply because of the coolness factor, the same reason people chose Diamond over Pearl, or Sapphire over Ruby. But let's weigh the differences here, just to give HeartGold a fair shake. ROUND ONE - Opening Screenshots HG: [link] SS: [link] First off, check out those snazzy 3D models. cB They look a little blockish, especially Ho-oh, but it's progress over the D/P/Pt intros. Anyways, I'm a little disappointed in the background choice for HG D: Woohoo, an unoriginal sunrise above the clouds. On the other hand Lugia looks pretty sweet just chillin' over the Whirl Islands there. Winner: SoulSilver ROUND TWO - Other Intro Screenshots HG: [link] SS: [link] Lulz, as hilarious as glowy-butt Ho-oh is, I think it's got this one in the bag. The graphics are more impressive, especially with the richness of those autumn trees, whereas Lugia's shot looks more akin to the advanced generation. Plus, when has Lugia ever been associated with ice? Winner: HeartGold ROUND THREE - Pokemon Selection HG: Mankey, Primeape, Growlithe, Arcanine, Spinarak, Ariados, Gligar, Teddiursa, Ursaring, Mantine SS: Vulpix, Ninetales, Meowth, Persian, Ledyba, Ledian, Delibird, Skarmory, Phanphy, Donphan Assuming these stay the same, it' still a tough choice. Arcanine is the more powerful between Ninetales and itself, but Skarmory is far more useful than Gligar. The others don't particularly matter, except that Mantine is a useful HM slave and I'm kind of fond of the Meowth line. We'll chalk this one up as a tie. Winner: Tie ROUND FOUR - Sprites HG: [link] SS: [link] I'm not sure if this really matters to anyone but me, but these arrangements make it pretty clear which version had the more colorful, more unique sprites. The Gold ones look almost bleached out, and if their colors are okay, they look as stiff as a rail. It's really a personal preference, but Silver was always the winner in this category for me. ....of course since both versions will most likely now have the same sprites, this round is kinda pointless, lmao. Winner: SoulSilver ROUND FIVE - Lugia vs. Ho-oh And finally the ultimate show-down of the main difference between Gold and Silver. Considering it's either lv. 40 Lugia and lv. 70 Ho-oh, or lv. 40 Ho-oh and lv. 70 Lugia, it's not a matter of which you get. It's a matter of which you'd prefer first (since HG/SS will most likely have a move reteacher, you don't need to worry about losing aeroblast or sacred fire)Personally, I already have two Lugias off XD: Gale of Darkness, so I'd rather get my Ho-oh first, rather than another low-leveled Lugia. Now considering types: Lugia is the more versatile since it also gets water (and therefore ice) moves, but is more defense oriented, whereas Ho-oh is more attack oriented. I usually opt for the attacker, but Lugia is a legendary (har har) staller, as well. The verdict? I'm not sure. They're both great, and unlike Dialga/Palkia I don't have a clear preference. Winner: Tie FINAL VERDICT: Technically SoulSilver, although I'll still be getting HeartGold for the sake of the early Ho-oh and my old childhood nostalgia (it was my first game, bawww). Hope that gave you something to consider, though. :U -Cran |

They're very good--I had them for the first time last week, slightly sour, with a mildly sweet undertone.

Yeah, I typically don't like cranberries, actually, because they're kinda sour, but they might be acceptable if covered in chocolate.
